My Second Semester
My professor often tells me that I should read a lot, especially about Anatomy and the Physiology of our body. The basic principle of nursing lies there so I really, really want to be familiar with it. But right now, I've got my hand full with 3 major subjects, so I'll have to set it aside 'til summer comes. I sort of promised myself to buy the Anatomy book then, and master it over the summer. Well, hopefully...
So, what do I expect this Semester? Everybody tells me that I'll have a week of duty for my Nursing100 subject and they say I'll have it next year. Most probably during the last week of March or perhaps earlier. I hope earlier as I already have my nursing uniform ready. I don't want it to sit longer on my closet and get stain.(hehe)
Take note though, it's only the uniform that is ready... not ME! (grin)

Florence Nigthingale, A Nurse and A Hero
Florence Nightingale was born in Italy in 1820. She came from a modest background and was home-schooled by her father, a professor at Cambridge. She attended Kaiserwerth for her nursing training, responding to a cause that she felt compelled to follow since she was seventeen.
She was further inspired to neglect the social convention of marriage when she met Elizabeth Blackwell, the first female doctor. She completed her nursing training with her father's blessing, and was taken on by the Institute of Protestant Deaconesses and was later made the lady superintendent at a London hospital for invalid women.
Because of Russia's invading of Turkey, France and Britain decided to intervene and offer their support. Known as the Crimean War, this 1853 decision would prove to be a time where nursing was an absolute necessity in order to keep the soldiers ready for battle. British soldiers were suffering from malaria and cholera within weeks of entering the battlefield.
Upon hearing of this epidemic, Florence Nightingale offered her services to the army as well as bringing along over 30 additional nurses. When they arrived in Scutari, it became apparent why the soldiers were dying or becoming infected so rapidly. The conditions were putrid and the rates of infection sky high. It was common to have soldiers die of infections before dying of actual war wounds.
Nightingale resisted the opposition to changing the military standards of care and forged ahead to improve the sanitation of the hospital wards. Returning in 1856 to England, Nightingale was a new hero for the country, but her work was not done yet. After seeing the horrid conditions for the soldiers, she pressed for increased training of nurses and doctors.
At the close of the war in 1860, with a fund raised in tribute to her services, Nightingale founded the Nightingale School and Home for Nurses at St Thomas's Hospital, London. The opening of this school marked the beginning of professional education in nursing.

Memory Loss Begins At 20
A few years back, I had this condition called Hyperthyroidism. And one of the signs that my doctor mentioned is that it might caused me memory problems (mental processes become dull). But how about other people who are healthy and does not suffer the same condition?
I bet once or twice or a dozen of times, you experienced walking into a room and forget why you get there? Forget the title of the movie you have recently watched?
Researchers says that memory is more than just something to store in your hard drive. If you don't use it, you might lose it. Make sense right?
According to studies, exercising our BRAIN will help our loss of memory. Just like our biceps, our brain also needs exercise to keep it fit.

What Causes An Uncessful CD Burning?
I was browsing the Cd-r King site and came across with their Support page while trying to find for their contact number. This interests me because I've been encountering problems with CD burning at least once or twice a day and it's not really helping my business.
You may check the following factors to avoid it:
- CD Quality
- Writer Quality
- Writer and CD Compatibility
- Buffer Size
- Writer Age
- Writer Condition
- System Condition
- Memory Size
- Burning Software
- Virus
Also, if you are experiencing successive CD burning failure, you may want to try restarting your PC. It helps so far. You may check this link What Causes An Uncessful CD Burning? for detailed information.
NCLEX Review CD, 3rd Edition
Anyway, since I have lots of free time I started browsing its content and checked the questionnaires. With the first 10 questions I encountered, I only got 1 correct answer, best answer that is. Well, what do you expect from a sophomore Nursing Student? And to be honest, I have not done any good reading since I enrolled. (guilty) But I already promised myself to make up for that on Summer. Yeah, like borrow or buy some books which I am already saving some $$$ for. Maybe the next time I opened this CD and try to answer it, I'll be able to correctly answer at least 1/3 of it.
The best thing about this Reviewer is that its providing Rationales unlike the other Review CDs I have. And also, it give good pointers as to how you're gonna answer the situation and why is it the best answer.
I'll be posting some of the learnings I get from this CD once I feel like typing longer. So watch out for it! (wink)
Jinx
Okay, so I am thinking that someone has really caused me a bad luck today. To start, my printer stopped working. Well, I assumed that it was only taking a break but after I contacted a techinical person, he just advised me to buy a new one. What a luck! I just spent all of my money last sembreak and used most of goes to my tuition fee. And to second it, the business is not really running good these days since students are still on enjoying the break. Anyway, I guess I have to start reminding myself again that I should be looking at my glass half full. (wink)
Break Out
It came to a point that my life is following a pattern so I decided to enroll for a specical computer course... CISCO! But, I did not end up studying CISCO (wink). Instead, I enrolled as a Nursing Student in Dr. Gloria D. Lacson Foundation Colleges, Inc. Yup, it's a College near the shop I manage! Since I've been hanging mostly (everyday actually) with nursing students for a year, and 2 of my best buddies are taking the same course, I decided to enroll it. So, we're now talking on the same language. But I liked the way they looked at me whenever I talked techy stuffs (hehehe)... Maybe they should read more techy stuff so we're even. (wink)
I've been checking myself every now and then if I really like this course and it's still a yes as of this moment. Actually, I think I'm liking it more with the thought of actually being able to care with people I hardly know and giving them proper care. And as of this moment too, I'm really looking forward in stepping up my feet at a hospital in white (big grin).
Starting A Blog
There have been a couple of questions though that came across my mind before I decided to air my thoughts. Like, what do I really wanna write and share to others, will it be interesting or bore my future readers, or will i make a successful blogger. (wide grin) Well, that's just me. As for the other bloggers I'm pretty sure they have at least one of my reasons.
So, how did I get started? First, Eli sent me this site: http://www.blogspot.com/ and registered. It's just an easy process. In a couple of minutes, you can get started and create your own blog. I've also found a couple of website that offers free blog account like http://www.livejournal.com/, http://www.blogeasy.com/, and http://www.thoughts.com/.
